Float to a Less-Stressed,
Pain-Free You

FLOATING IS REST (REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL STIMULUS THERAPY)

Float Therapy (aka sensory deprivation), allows you disconnect from feeling anxious and overwhelmed from the stressors and stimulants that are constantly bombarding you in our always-connected culture.

Is a zero-gravity environment that resets your mind, body and soul to completely let go and relax. Using 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salts, the buoyancy of the water makes floating on water feel like floating on air. By eliminating the forces of gravity pulling on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, you can effortlessly relieve pain, relax, recover, and improve sleep in this unique state.

Though flotation is an “effortless” therapy, the body and mind actually learn how to relax into the float with each session. We like to say “the more you float, the better it gets”, as floats themselves deepen beyond the first session.  Stress, tension and pain have formed over time and will take some time to experience the greatest relief—luckily, floating is a relaxing, fun, and effortless way to do so!

    The Three R’s to Reset:

*RELAX

Epsom Salts are great for your skin, hair, nails, and act as an exfoliate. They aid in joint pain, ease stress, and naturally relax the body. 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salts help prevent inflammation in your joints / muscles, and treat sprains, strains and sore muscles.

*REPAIR

1000 pounds of salt in 180 gallons of water creates a 30% salt solution, enabling you to float effortlessly atop the water. This creates a deeply relaxing, anti-gravity environment. As all weight and tension dissolves away, it’s even safe to fall asleep. There are no pressure points on the body in this state, which can provide up to 100% pain relief. The spine naturally elongates and straightens, and the body undergoes the same regeneration process that transpires during sleep.

*REFRESH
An hour of zero gravity and zero distractions will decrease the production of cortisol, a stress hormone, leaving us feeling refreshed and serene after the float. The brain enters the delta brain-wave state, associated with deep sleep and dreaming. As all external sources of distraction are removed, floating provides an extreme form of rest. The water, kept at skin temperature, feels like floating on a cloud or what it must feel to be back in the womb.

DISCOVER THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL BENEFITS OF FLOATING

PHYSICAL BENEFITS

As you might imagine, being in a low-gravity, totally silent, and pitch-black floatation tank gives the body time to relax. While the healing benefits of relaxation have long been documented, the intense relaxation of floatation therapy is unique to the low-gravity environment that floatation tank provides. This environment leads to more profound relaxation and allows our bodies to recuperate faster and more thoroughly.

Increased Blood Circulation
The near-weightless environment of floating allows for the muscles and joints of the body to relax, increasing blood flow and helping to more quickly repair muscle tissues and heal the body. This is especially beneficial for those with injuries or chronic pain.

Increased Healing Abilities
The floatation tank environment has been shown to expedite the healing of broken bones and sprained joints, sometimes healing twice as fast as without floatation therapy.

Pain Management
Floatation tanks and floatation therapy have seen success easing more chronic pains such as neck and back pain, and help with spinal misalignment issues. Float tanks have even been shown to ease the pain from such conditions as arthritis and fibromyalgia, conditions with few natural treatment options. This alleviation in conjunction with the healing of massage or the strengthening of yoga and other exercise can lead to prolonged periods of respite from pain.

Increased Immune System Recovery
The low-impact environment gives your body time to rest and recuperate, and gives your immune system the opportunity to shift into a higher gear, strengthening your body’s immune response.

Use in Athletic Training
Bodies physically rest and recover more quickly in a floatation tank, up to four times faster, in fact. This means that you can train yourself harder and reap the benefits of slower recovery times with the use of a float tank. Water in the float tank has the added benefit of being saturated with Epsom salts, which have well-established healing effects, helping to draw out toxins and lactic acid from work outs, speeding up recovery time and allowing athletes to push themselves farther, faster, especially in conjunction with massage or other alternative medicine.

MENTAL BENEFITS
Being in a low-gravity, totally silent and pitch black environment gives the mind time to relax as well. This mental release is almost the opposite of stress, and allows the brain to stop allocating its resources to processing the experience of all of our senses, producing profoundly positive mental effects and releasing a surge of positive neurochemicals. Studies have shown the use of floatation therapy to be extremely beneficial for relaxation and mental health.

Stress Reduction
The lack of external stimuli is extremely rare in modern society. In the floatation environment, without the hustle and bustle of the world imposing itself, people experience a profound calmness of mind. This respite from the world allows for stress management, offers the psychological benefits of a feeling of inner peace, and is a perfect complement to many alternative well-ness recovery.

Increased Reaction Time & Sensory Acuity
The sensory deprivation of the floatation tank environment has been shown to heighten the senses post-float and even lead to increased sensory acuity for days following.

Increased Creativity
Sensory deprivation allows the mind to enter into the theta state, a somewhat dreamlike state that most people only experience when on the cusp of sleep or right after waking in the morning. These lower frequency brain waves, primarily generated by the right hemisphere (the hemisphere associated with creative, non-linear thought), have been called “the state of inspiration” and there is evidence, both anecdotal and scientific, to support an increase in feelings of creativity accompanying these type of brain waves.

Sleep Maintenance
Floatation tanks have seen much success as an aid to those with insomnia or other sleep disorders. The sensory deprivation allows the brain a natural calm-down period, aiding those who have trouble entering this period naturally. Floating can even be used to alleviate feelings of “jet-lag” caused by changes in time zones or reset sleep schedules for those needing to do so to maintain a healthy level of sleep, something many alternative medicine regimens attempt to cultivate.

Feeling of Euphoria
Floating also offers a natural increase in dopamine and other neurotransmitters, which create feelings of euphoria and aid mental relaxation. This has both the subjective benefits of a feeling of well-being, and the mental benefits of a more balanced brain chemistry.

Guidelines for Your 1st Float

Preparing for Your Float

It’s easy to REST, but we do make several recommendations to ensure your float is the best it can be, every time!

The Day of Your Float:

  • New clients need to arrive 30 minutes before appointment time. (Those who arrive late will need to reschedule—this is to preserve the quietness and integrity of all our floats, which we start simultaneously.)

  • Avoid shaving, tanning, waxing—or anything else that would increase the sensitivity of your skin.

  • We provide Vaseline in each Pod Suite to protect any small cuts and grazes from stinging!

  • Hair color needs to be “set” before coming in to float (your shower water is running completely clear). Please reschedule if it is not.

  • We encourage clients to avoid caffeine for at least 4 hours before floating for the most relaxing experience.

  • Females experiencing their menstrual cycle the day of their float MUST reschedule their appointments—thank you!

  • Because floating is so relaxing, if you come on an empty stomach, you may be distracted by stomach grumbles.

  • We recommend eating something small prior to your float, but allowing at least 30 minutes to digest before your appointment.

What to Bring:

  • There’s a lot of salt in our float spas. Thus, it is best to avoid wearing your “best clothes”. We recommend comfortable garments that are easy to change in and out of.

  • We provide spa sandals, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and a prep room with blow dryers, lotions, q-tips, etc.

  • We encourage clients to float nude for the greatest experience—each room is private and features its own shower and changing area. Of course, feel free to bring a swimsuit if you prefer.

  • Those under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not permitted to float.

TAKE A TOUR

Your Float Session

  • After showering you may enter your Float Pod, which contains just 10 inches of water.

  • You may leave your Pod’s lid open, propped, or closed for your float. The lid is on hydraulic arms and opens easily when pushed.

  • Lie back gently; the buoyancy of the water will effortlessly support you.

  • Once your session has started you will have access to your control buttons—including your light and music.

  • To enhance relaxation we offer 10 minutes of soothing music to start—and wrap up your session with 5 minutes of music at the end.

    • The float has ended once your Pod’s filtration system comes on and the water starts to move.

    • Don’t worry, if you doze off and miss your cue to exit, we will let you know the session has ended via your Float Pod’s intercom!

    • You are in full control of your light (which features a variety of options) during your session. We recommend turning it off for the deepest experience—but this will always be up to you.

    • Refrain from touching your face while in the Float Pod to avoid getting salt into your eyes.  That being said, we provide squirt bottles of fresh water in each pod as a precaution!

    • Initially, pain or tension in the body may seem more noticeable. This is due to the float’s ability to eliminate the typical distractions we face. Simply breathe and know that this is normal. As the session progresses, sensations will dissipate.

After Your Session…

  • After your session, feel free to use our Prep Room which features blow dryers, lotions and q-tips—please bring a comb or brush if need be.

  • We greatly encourage each client to spend time in our spa’s “Float” lounge after their float. Ask your float consultant to try our oxygen bar and enjoy some of our freshly brewed herbal tea. We’d love if you shared your experience in our guest journal, or go onto Google and give us a review!

  • Flotation is a serious therapy; drink plenty of water after your session!

Pay Attention

Flotation’s benefits carry into the days following your session. Take note of how you feel in the next few days.

Did you sleep better? How are your pain levels? Do you notice a lighter, more carefree mood?

When we feel better, life feels better, too. We look forward to your return time and time again to experience the science of total disconnect and relaxation!
